Work With Us

Malfunction Films isn't about making whiz-bang movies filled with over-the-top effects. We're all about telling a story, not blowing things up. While our films may not put millions of butts in seats for the Saturday matinee, they will explore the art and power of filmmaking.

Whether you're an actor, a writer, musician, makeup artist, cinematographer, or anyone else interested in film, Malfunction Films provides an avenue for you to take chances and to see what you're really capable of.

We invite you to contact us if you're interested in getting to the essence of filmmaking — even if you're a pyrotechnician and like to blow stuff up.

Actors

Malfunction Films recognizes the dedication, observational skills and artistry required of skilled actors. As such, we strive to make sure that the work of our actors doesn't take a back seat to cinematic gimmicks. We know that top quality acting is a key to making a good film great.

Whether you're an experienced actor or one just starting your career, we look forward to hearing from you. Feel free to contact us — we'd love to get your resume, head shots, or even short video clips of your work.

Writers

The story's the thing.

There's obviously no movie without a screenplay. Whether it's an original story or one developed from a novel, short story or something based on history, we're always looking for good material at Malfunction Films.

We look for stories that involve interesting characters (and your "Average Joe" can be very intriguing) that find themselves in interesting situations (and everyday life can be riveting if it's presented in the right way). Drama, comedy, science fiction, action... it doesn't matter as long as it's honest and truly tells a story.

If you have a story you'd like to tell, we'd love to learn more about it. We prefer to receive treatments, but full scripts can be accepted. You can contact us and include your work, but please include a signed release form with your submission (you can print out, fill out, sign, and scan the form in order to return it to us by email). Submissions made without a completed release form included will not be reviewed.

Musicians

Film is generally considered to be two-dimensional, with the added dimension of time. But in reality, music adds a fourth dimension. Sometimes it's front and center, and sometimes it blends so seamlessly with what's on-screen that we don't notice it. Either way, it adds immeasureably to a film. At Malfunction Films, we encourage musicians to be bold, coming up with musical surprises to go along with the stories we tell.

If you're a musician, we'd love to hear your work. Feel free to contact us and include digital files of your work (in a commonly-used format). Please note that we will need you to complete a release form (you can print it, fill it out, sign it, and scan it to email it back to us). We're unable to review audio clips that aren't accompanied by a release form.

Crew

Costume design. Makeup. Cinematography. Audio. Art direction. Production Management...

Malfunction Films is looking for all the skilled help we can find. Whether your artistic background is visual, auditory, tactile, or even culinary, we would be interested in having you help with our productions. We realize that at least some measure of creativity lies in all pursuits, and we recognize that all disciplines have something to offer a film production.

We'd love to hear how you feel you can contribute to the mission of making movies. Please contact us and tell us more.
